On our first day in Auckland we visited the Sky Tower, at 328 meters or 1,076 ft. tall it’s the tallest building in town.
We returned at sunset.
Our 2nd day here found us on a ferry ride to this volcanic island.
We were surprised that in just 600 to 1,000 years after it erupted it is now filled with all this vegetation. Including a 250-year-old tree. We could see downtown Auckland and Sky Tower from Rangitoto Island. We needed to 20X zoom to see it across the water, but it’s there.
Looking for something to do near the Los Angeles Airport, I came across a web site with the top 10, one of them was the Flight Path Museum, it’s out on the south side of the airport.
We got to sit in the cockpit of a Douglas DC-3

Are you wondering what there’s to do at Chicago’s Midway Airport while you wait? Would you believe that Chicago Midway Airport has a yoga room? We passed through TSA and saw a “Yoga Room” sign.
It’s at Concourse C, Gate C1, the room is complete with soothing music, mats, hand sanitizer, a screen with calming images, a bench, and a mirror wall to check your form. What a great place to decompress and maybe do a bit of savasana before your flight.

I might be a bit obsessive about this, but ever since we were 15 days out, I’ve been checking weather twice daily for our departure weather. We leave for LA 1 1/2 days prior to our New Zealand Air flight from LA to Auckland, figuring that in the event of any delays we’ll still make our flight.
I’m happy to report that Friday the 29th is showing part sun and no chance of precipitation..
Uh oh, 40% chance of snow the day before. That was not in this morning’s report ❄️😳 I’ll see what tomorrow brings.
New Year’s day, and we’re figuring out where to stay in Melbourne, Australia and what to do while there. Options that we have in mind, in addition to exploring the city, are a day trip to Lilydale to pedal the Warburton Trail, and 2 nights to Wilsons Promontory Point and on the return to Melbourne a visit to Philip Island to see the penguins at dusk.
Then we thought we’d return to Melbourne, return our rental car and hop a plane to Sydney.
